The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire Thursday morning on Route 1 just north of the city.

The driver was heading south just before 11:00 a.m. when his 2010 GMC Acadia started malfunctioning. As the man pulled over to the side of the highway near Theriault Equipment, the SUV caught fire.

Deputy Chief Adam Rider of the Presque Isle Fire Department said flames were showing from under the hood when firefighters arrived.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. There were no injuries.

Rider said the vehicle was a total loss.
