Comedian Steve Martin deleted his tribute to Carrie Fisher from Twitter after his tweet was accused of being sexist and a poor homage to the feminist icon.

"When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well," Martin reportedly wrote in the since-removed tweeted.

Some Twitter users, as well as New York Magazine's The Cut, were quick to point out the sexist undertones of Martin's likely well-meaning tweet, which seemed to prioritize Fisher's appearance and attractiveness over her talents and qualities as an artist and actress.

Ironically, over the course of her career Fisher was outspoken about not being labeled a sex symbol as well as wanting to be judged based on her merits, not her looks.

During the press tour for Star Wars: The Forces Awakens, the actress behind princess-turned-General Leia Organa slammed ageist body-shamers on Twitter, wryly tweeting, "Please stop debating about whether or not [I] aged well. Unfortunately it hurts all 3 of my feelings. My BODY hasn't aged as well as I have. Blow us!"

"Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they're the temporary happy by-products of time and/or DNA. Don't hold your breath for either," she added in a follow-up tweet.
