State Police have identified the body of a middle aged woman found Monday floating in the Penobscot River in Hampden.

The woman turned out to be 51-year-old Barbara J. Goodwin of Bangor, according the State Medical Examiner’s Office who also determined Goodwin drowned to death.

Goodwin's identity was discovered with assistance from Bangor Police, who had prior contact with her.

Detectives say she was last seen in Bangor on Thursday leaving a medical provider’s office.

According to police no one had reported her missing.

McCausland said Goodwin's body had been in the river for a few days and she was spotted by two kayakers roughly 20-30 feet from shore off the Cottage Road.

Anyone who had seen or had contact with Goodwin since Thursday is asked to call State Police in Orono at (207) 866-2122.
