The Boston Red Sox have determined who will throw the first pitch for the franchise to start the 2017 season.

Reigning American League Cy Young award winner Rick Porcello will get the first start of the year, according to manager John Farrell.  The Red Sox skipper reportedly told the righty that he would be making the Opening Day start once he arrived at camp in mid-February.  Chris Sale is also set to receive the start in game two with the rest of the rotation to be determined at the end of camp.

Porcello is coming off the best season of career where he went 22-4 and sported an ERA of 3.15 while striking out 189 batters in 223 innings.

The Sox are still waiting on the status on David Price, who will likely start the season on the disabled list.  The start of the season will be on April 3rd as the Sox host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
