For the second year in a row, Providence College goalie and South Portland native Jon Gillies is up for college hockey's Mike Richter Award.

The Richter Award is just two years old, named after former Minnesota Golden Gopher and longtime NHL goalie Mike Richter. Some call it the Hobey Baker award for college goalies.

Last year, UMass Lowell goalie Connor Hellebuyck won the award.

Gillies was in net twice over the weekend when the Friars beat UMaine.

He is a junior with a record of 18-8-5 and a 2.20 GAA.

Gillies is a 3rd round draft pick of Calgary.
