E3 2017 kicks off this weekend, and with it comes all the news, previews and details on what lies ahead for the next 12 months in video games. With that in mind, we've put together a collection of predictions for what we hope to see from Sony and the PlayStation brand at this year's show.

After a spectacular showing at E3 2016, Sony has a lot to live up to this year. Given the company's portfolio of first-party titles, that shouldn't be a big problem. Games like God of War, The Last of Us 2 and Days Gone will surely have larger presences this year, making them more concrete products than they were a year ago. With virtual reality and some exclusive Square Enix titles like Kingdom Hearts III, the PlayStation brand already has a leg up on the competition at this year's event.

That doesn't mean we're letting Sony off the hook on the promises of 2016 however. Game trailers and early demos are great for hype, but titles need to be playable and have more firm release windows and dates if the PlayStation 4 wants to have a chance at "winning" 2017. The battle for gamer attention spans and wallets will be tougher than ever with Microsoft dropping a console update in the Scorpio and Nintendo having more than just a new The Legend of Zelda game to show off at E3.

Whatever Sony has in store, we'll be on hand to see it in person. With only a week until the show kicks off, the pressure is already on. Hopefully the PlayStation can maintain its cool and give us a reason to be excited for what's coming beyond new trailers.
