The musical history of Motown Records will be immortalized in a new original animated kids series for Netflix.

According to Billboard, the popular streaming network is creating a show featuring hits from Motown artists including Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Lionel Richie, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5 and many others. Motown vet Smokey Robinson will serve as executive music producer of the series, which don’t have a title or premier date as of yet.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful new series that will embrace the magic of Motown and present our songs to a whole new generation of fans and their families," said Robinson who will curate songs for the television project.

Producer Josh Wakely will serve as director and show runner.

"Having been raised on the music of Motown, I am very grateful to have been entrusted with these songs as I draw inspiration from the stories and characters found within them," says Wakely.

This news comes as Netflix recently launched their new Beatles-themed kids show Beat Bugs, which features covers of the Fab Four songs.

There's no word on how Netflix will present the Motown-based show but hopefully it's in the same creative space as the classic Jackson 5 cartoon show back in the 1970s.

Nevertheless, this is a good look for both Motown Records and Netflix. We can't wait for the series premiere.
