Food pantry shelves that were filled up in the winter in the spirit of holiday generosity are typically bare by spring—a reminder that hunger in the U.S. is a real and ongoing issue. Saturday is the 21st Annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive, which is coordinated by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The drive has turned into the largest one-day food-collection effort in the nation, and last year letter carriers picked up more than 70 million pounds of non-perishable food donations.

Here’s a simple way for you to help: just leave nonperishable food items next to your mailbox on Saturday.  Your letter carrier will pick up your donation, which will then be delivered to food pantries in the state.

Other agencies and companies partnering with the NALC in the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive include the United Way, Salvation Army, Campbell’s Soup, AARP and the U.S. Postal Service, among others.  Find out more at the National Association of Letter Carriers website.
