Hope & Justice Project Prevention and Training Coordinator Casey Faulkingham says the 4th Annual Safe Homes Aroostook 5K is a timed, family-friendly event to raise awareness and funds for two non-profit organizations that work to ensure safe homes for everyone in Aroostook County: Hope & Justice Project and Homeless Services of Aroostook.

Representatives from both organizations joined with members of UMPI community this month at the Sister Mary O'Donnell Emergency Homeless Shelter to fine tune the details of the event.

Faulkingham says participants who pre-register online are guaranteed a free event t-shirt. Registration is $20 per participant. Children under 12 can participate for free and do not need to register unless they would like an event t-shirt.

On May 1st, doors will open at Gentile Hall at 12:00PM for those who wish to register in person and for pre-registrants to check in and pick up their shirts. Faulkingham encourages businesses and groups to form teams, fundraise together, and challenge other groups to do the same.

Steve Eyler, the Executive Director of Homeless Services of Aroostook says there were some technical issues regarding online registration which have been worked out. Participants can now register online at The Safe Homes Aroostook site.

Participants can specify what team they are a part of and reserve their t-shirt size and can email the information to safehomes@aroostookhomeless.org.

Faulkingham says volunteers are needed the day of the event to help direct traffic and hand out water, cake and other giveaways. Anyone interested in volunteering should email casey@hopeandjusticeproject.org.
