According to Cpl. Chantal Farrah, the initial investigation revealed that the male suspect pointed a rifle at police, who in response fired a pistol while taking cover. Several shots were allegedly fired by police and the suspect.

Investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events.  At this point it is unclear if the suspect shot at the officers.

On Monday, 35-year-old Chad Tomah of Woodstock First Nation appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court and was charged with carrying a firearm for a dangerous purpose.  Tomah was remanded and is scheduled to appear back in court on Thursday morning for a bail hearing.

Police say more charges are anticipated.
