Police and emergency personnel were called to the accident near the Monticello/Littleton town line at approximately 11:15 p.m.  State Police say 35-year-old Patricia Perkins of Presque Isle was northbound on Route 1 in her 2002 Saturn passenger car and drifted over the center line.  The car went into the path of a southbound Toyota car operated by 29-year-old Michael Trader of Brooklyn, New York.

Perkins sustained serious internal injuries and the Jaws of Life had to be used to remove her from her vehicle, according to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police.  Perkins was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further care.

Trader was uninjured in the crash. Both vehicles are considered a total loss.

Monticello Fire Department, Houlton Ambulance and State Troopers Jillian Monahan and Dennis Quint responded to the accident.
