MDI played host to Presque Isle in softball, on Saturday afternoon, May 2nd and Presque Isle ended up sweeping both games 14-6 and 17-10.

In the first game, MDI was up 6-2 going into the top of the 7th inning until Presque Isle exploded scoring 12 runs and the MDI defense committed a host of errors.

Kelsey Gilson picked up the wind for the Wildcats allowing 8 hits, 6 runs, of which only 1 run was earned, walking 3 and striking out 2. Haley Littlefield took the loss for MDI giving up 6 hits, 11 runs, 4 of which were earned, walking 6 and striking out 5.

For MDI Darcy Kanu was 2-4, Molly Carroll was 2-2 with a triple and double, Haley Littlefield was 2-3, Avalon Kerley was 1-4, and Julianna Cleaves was 1-3.

For Presque Isle, Hailey Cameron was 3-5 with a double, Kelsey Gilson was 2-5 with a double, Jordi Legassi was 1-5, Megan Seward was 1-4 with a double, Megan McVinight was 1-5 and Julian Flynn was 1-5.

The tow teams took a quick break for a barbecue lunch and then resumed play for the second game. The question was, would MDI be able to put the 12 run 7th inning behind them or would Presque Isle's bats remain red hot?

The answer was the latter, as the Wildcats put up 8 runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 17-10 victory and a sweep of the doubleheader.

Kelsey Gilson picked up the win again for the Wildcats, pitching a complete  game allowing 10 runs, 6 of which were earned and walking 6 and striking out 6.

Aubrey Boyce pitched 2 innings for MDI giving up 11 runs, 5 of which were earned, allowing 8 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2 and taking the loss. Littlefield pitched the final 5 innings for MDI.

For MDI  Cassidy Parady was 4-5 with a double, Madison Thornton was 2-4, Riley Mooers was 2-4, Alaina Duley was 2-5. Avaolon Kerley was 1-4, Ali Bierman was 1-3, Katie Guarino was 1-5 and Haley Littlefield was 1-5 batting.

For Presque Isle, Megan Sweard was 4-4, Jordi Legassi was 3-6, Hailey Cameron was 2-5 with a double, Jullian Flynn was 2-5, Erin Ackerson was 2-5 with a double, Kelsey Gilson was 1-5 with a double, and Megan McVinight was 1-4.

MDI is now 2-4 and plays at unbeaten Old Town (6-0) on Monday, May 4th at 4:30 PM in Old Town.

Presque Isle is now 3-2 and hosts Houlton on Wednesday, May 6th at 4 PM.
