A Presque Isle man has been charged in connection with a fire in September that destroyed a large service truck in central Aroostook County.

Twenty-seven-year old Spencer Goodine is charged with Arson, Burglary and Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

On September 3rd, State Fire Marshal Investigators and Maine Forest Rangers responded to the Bogan Brook Road near Westfield. Officials say a service truck for a woods operation being run by TNT Road Company of Fort Kent had been destroyed by fire and a large amount of tools on the truck had been stolen.

A small woods fire had also occurred as a result of the blaze, McCausland said. The value of the truck and the stolen equipment was estimated at $100,000. Investigators determined the fire was arson.

The service truck contained thousands of dollars’ worth of tools, parts, supplies, fuel and gear to support the timber operation. Among the equipment stolen was a Miller Trailblazer 302 Airpak Welder/Generator/Compressor.

The stolen compressor was eventually recovered as well as some of the tools and supplies, McCausland said. Many of the tools and equipment, however, are still missing and investigators are asking the public for help in locating them.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Public Safety Dispatch Center in Houlton at 532-5400.

Goodine was arrested Tuesday at his home in Presque Isle and is being held at the Aroostook County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
