Presque Isle Historical Society Presents Logging and River Driver Film [VIDEO]

The lives and experiences of Maine woods workers from days gone by fascinate us even today. That's the topic of the film "In The Blood," which will be shown in Presque Isle, Wednesday, December 2.

Kimberly Smith is secretary and treasurer of the Presque Isle Historical Society’s Board of Directors. She says the Maine-made documentary "uncovers the life, skills, ethics, heritage and character of turn of the century Maine lumbermen and river drivers” by combining archived film, historic photos, oral histories and an original soundtrack by Sumner McKane of Wiscasset.

Smith says the 73-minute film is like a virtual journey into the 19^th Century Maine woods.  In Aroostook County's formative years, the major industry was lumber.  She says local streams and rivers were used to move the wood and the hardy nature of these men is indicative of what we often think of as the Aroostook County work ethic.

The presentation of "In The Blood" is free and open to the public. It begins at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday, December 2nd and will be held in the McCain Conference Room,  on the second floor of TAMC’s East Annex. Smiths says this is the fourth year the historical society has teamed up with the hospital to bring a part of Northern Maine history to life.
