The National Weather Service says a storm system moving up the Northeast coast late Saturday night and Sunday could drop up to 2 feet of snow on Southern and Central Maine.

The blizzard warning covers an area that includes Bangor, Eastport, Lewiston, Augusta and Portland, where snowfall is expected to range from 16 -26 inches.

Meanwhile, a winter storm warning is in effect for all of Aroostook and northern Penobscot Counties from 1 a.m. Sunday into early Monday morning. Snowfall totals are predicted to be 10 -18 inches from Houlton to Millinocket, and 5 -10 inches in northern Aroostook County.

Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for most of New Brunswick, including Carleton County, with 20-40 centimetres of snow in the forecast for Sunday and Sunday night.

There's a winter storm watch in the northwest part of the province - including Grand Falls and Edmundston - where snowfall amounts should range from 5 - 15 centimetres.

Travel will be dangerous Sunday in the blizzard warning areas, where strong north winds gusting up to 55 mph (90 kilometres per hour) will create widespread blowing and drifting snow.
