A Nova Scotia man has been arrested after RCMP say they seized around 730,000 contraband cigarettes on the TransCanada Highway near New Maryland, New Brunswick.

Police made the seizure Wednesday at a check stop set up by RCMP Traffic Services and New Brunswick Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. The illegal cigarettes were found in a U-Haul trailer being pulled be a van, according to Corporal Travis Spink.

The driver of the van, a 27-year-old Halifax man, was arrested and later released. He is due in Fredericton Provincial Court on January 20.
