Shortly before 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, an individual wearing a disguise entered the Hampton Inn on Mapleton Road and tried to steal an Automated Teller Machine, according to Constable Marc-André Langis. An employee from the hotel intervened and was sprayed with pepper spray. The employee was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries and released, Langis said.

Witnesses said the suspect left the hotel without the ATM and fled the scene in a grey or green SUV. The individual is described as about 5'6" tall with a slim build, police say.

Anyone who was in that area of Moncton at the time of the incident or anyone that has any information about the suspect or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at (506) 857-2400.
