Authorities say the first reported incident occurred Sept 18. Police say three men in a white van asked a young girl to get in the vehicle. Investigators two days later say a man in a white van tried to lure a boy on a bicycle. Another similar incident happened Thursday when a girl was approached as she left a University of Maine campus.

Regional School Unit 13 Superintendent John McDonald has issued a statement alerting parents and the community about the most recent attempted abduction. McDonald says police will increase patrols near local schools. Students have been encouraged to walk in groups.

An investigation is ongoing.
