West District RCMP have arrested an Anfield, New Brunswick man following a lengthy standoff with police at a residence just west of Plaster Rock.

Police were called to a house in a wooded area on Route 395 in Anfield around 12:30 Monday afternoon. The RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed and a 34-year-old man was arrested without incident at approximately 11:00 p.m,, according to Cpl. Pierre Ayotte.

Wesley Geneau appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on Tuesday and was charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of breach of probation, Ayotte said.

Geneau has been ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment. He is expected to be back in court in early January.

The investigation is continuing.
