Early Easter morning Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a disturbance on the Perham Road in Perham. A resident called 911 and reported they were trying to restrain a female family member who was out of control and threatening to harm herself with a knife.

According to Sheriff Darrell Crandall, deputies encountered 30-year-old Ashley Doody acting aggressively and exhibiting unpredictable behavior because of “bath salt” intoxication.

This was not Doody's home, but she lives nearby. Deputies learned that Doody had attacked and stabbed the family dog with a kitchen knife; claiming the dog was demon possessed. The dog was seriously injured and had lost a lot of blood.

Sgt. Matt Cummings and Deputy Corey Saucier arrested Doody and charged her with aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class C felony.

Trixie, the injured mixed breed, was taken to a local veterinarian who believes she will fully recover.  State animal welfare will be notified in an effort to ensure that Doody does not have future access to the animal.

Doody was taken to the Aroostook County Jail where her bail was set at $1,000 cash or $10,000 surety.  She will make an initial appearance in Caribou Superior Court on May 19.
