A Patten, Maine man is facing heroin trafficking charges after Massachusetts State Police stopped his vehicle Friday evening and allegedly found over 400 bags of suspected heroin in his car.

Police say 36-year-old Stephen Pearl was pulled over on Route 20 in the town of Charlton, Mass. just after 8:30 p.m. Friday. A registration query of the plates on his Buick Roadmaster revealed that they belonged on a different vehicle.

An investigation by Massachusetts State Police turned up 410 bags of suspected heroin in Pearl's possession as well as one bag thought to contain crack cocaine.

The Patten man was taken into custody and booked at the State Police barracks in Sturbridge, Mass.

Pearl faces numerous charges, including: Trafficking in heroin, possession of a class B drug (Cocaine), unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle,  unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle and attaching plates.

Pearl was being held on $2000 bail, pending arraignment on Monday in Dudley District Court.
