Pair Charged with Boat Arson

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says two persons have been charged for burning a boat in Machiasport in June.

The fire destroyed a 22 foot long skiff and a 90 hp Mercury outboard owned by Cooke Aquaculture and was parked in the parking lot of the True North Salmon Factory when the fire took place on June 23.   Charged with arson and failing to report a dangerous fire was 29 year old Joseph Moore II of Machiasport and a 17 year boy from East Machias.  Both received summonses from fire investigators and are scheduled in Machias Court on August 2.   The value of the boat and motor was $25,000.  Fire Marshals charged the two last week  and say the two were attempting to steal the boat’s gasoline tank.
