UPDATE (November 15): Oprah has since responded to her initial comments regarding Donald Trump’s win after receiving backlash from people who viewed her tweets as flippant.

"I couldn’t breathe after the election,” Oprah said in a Facebook Live video, according to CBS8. “I was expecting tension, awkwardness and strain. So, when I saw them sitting together, and I actually took a picture of the screen that said ‘President-elect Trump honored to meet Obama.’ President Obama was being so gracious, and I heard Donald Trump say, ‘He’s a good man.’ I heard Donald Trump say, ‘I’m going to be seeking his counsel.’ I literally went...I can breathe now.”

She continued, noting her initial tweet was the mark of a bad judgment call.

"My mistake, and what I know to be true, you can never talk about everybody," she said. "Even in your arguments with your husband and your children. Don't talk about what you should do, what you ought to do, what everybody else should do, only speak for yourself."

As was the case for at least half of the United States’ population (or at least those who turned out to vote), Oprah Winfrey was stunned by the results of the 2016 presidential election, in which Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton to become the country’s new leader.

Winfrey revealed her reaction during an interview with the Associated Press, where she admitted that while she was stunned by the outcome, she felt slight comfort after watching President Barack Obama meet with Trump at the White House earlier today (November 10).

"I could sense, maybe I'm wrong, but I could sense from Donald Trump's body language even when he came out for the acceptance speech, that brotha has been humbled by this world thing,” she said. "I think it's a humbling process that now you literally have the weight of the world on your shoulders.”

Winfrey was a vocal supporter of Clinton throughout her campaign, and implored undecided voters to cast their ballot for the former First Lady.

“There really is no choice, people,” she said last month via The Hollywood Reporter. "I hear this all the time. You get in conversations, and there’s not a person in this room who hasn't been in the same conversation, where people say, 'I just don't know if I like her.'"

"She's not coming over your house,” Winfrey continued. "You don’t have to like her. Do you like this country? Do you like democracy or do you want a demagogue?"
