Penn Wins In 10, Old Town Plays Today

The 2015 Senior League World Series got underway with four games Sunday featuring eight teams from five nations, including the defending SLWS Champs from Texas.

Defending Champs Survive In Extras

Texas rallied three times before hanging on to win 5-4 in 12 innings.

John Doxakis started for the defending champs, tossing three innings while going 4-6 at the plate. Jimmy Winston earned the win, tossing the final four innings.

Arizona was led by Alec Acevado who went 3-for-5 with two doubles and 2 RBI. Paulo Rodriguez took the loss, allowing the winning run to score in the top of the 12th.

Texas will next play Monday (8/3) at 10 a.m. vs. U.S. Southeast (Virginia). Arizona falls into the losers bracket and will play Latin America, Monday (8/3) at 5 p.m.

Asia-Pacific Cruises Past Sloppy Europe-Africa

Saipan cruised to a 10-5 win over Italy thanks to a five run fourth inning.

Five errors from the Italians spurred Saipan's offense, led by Roke Tenorio, who went 3-for-4 with 2-RBI and two runs scored.

Franklin Lizama earned the win for Asia-Pacific, throwing two innings and striking out two. The loss went to Italy's Andrea Campagna who allowed eight hits and eight runs --four earned-- in 3.2 innings of work.

With the win, Asia-Pacific will now play the host team from Old Town, Maine, Monday (8/3) at 1 p.m. Europe-Africa's next game will come Monday (8/3) at 8 p.m. vs. Canada (Saskatchewan).

Late Rally Not Enough As Canada Falls To U.S. Central

The U.S. Central team from Ohio raced past their northern neighbors from Canada, 6-3 in the two side's opening game.

Ohio received strong pitching from Mitch Massaro, 5 innings pitched and 5 strikeouts, and a productive night at the plate by cleanup-hitter, Bryan Yoder, 1-for-2 with 2-RBI, to beat the team from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Canada's lineup was led by Adam De Corby, who went 2-for-3 with 2-RBI. Dylan Bells took the loss, allowing two runs and fanning a pair in 2.2 innings.

Ohio advances to play either host team Old Town or Asia-Pacific, with the two teams meeting Tuesday (8/4) night at 8 p.m. Canada will attempt to stay alive when they face Europe-Africa, Monday (8/3) at 8 p.m.

Pennsylvania Prevails In Pitcher's Duel

Shut down pitching from each side led to a closely contested Opening Day finale, won by U.S. East, 3-0, over Latin America in 10 innings.

Curacao's starter, Christopher Koeimen, threw eight scoreless innings and struck out seven six without factoring in the decision, while Pennsylvania starter, Brandon Kohn, threw 6.2 innings of scoreless ball, receiving a no-decision.

Siamari Boekhoudt and Ralison Bentura each turned in multi-hit performances at the top of Curacao's lineup, as the Latin American team out-hit Pennsylvania, 10-4.

Pennsylvania scored all three runs in the 10th inning, getting run-scoring hits from Nick DeLucas and Ryan Lowry. Kevin Walder earned the win for U.S. East and the loss went to Geedion Jakob of Curacao.

Pennsylvania's next challenge comes Tuesday (8/4) at 5 p.m. vs. the winner of U.S. Southwest (Texas) and U.S. Southeast (Virginia). Curacao will attempt to extend their stay at the SLWS Monday (8/3) at 5 p.m. when they play Arizona.
