An overnight fire Sunday destroyed a home in the rural community of Beechwood, New Brunswick, about 15 kilometres north of Florenceville-Bristol, leaving one man homeless.

The Bath Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze at 200 Cahill Road shortly after midnight and arrived to find the north end of the single-story house fully engulfed.

Brunswick News reported firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the south end of the house, but the structure was considered a total loss.

The man was reportedly not home at the time and there were no injuries from the fire,

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have provided emergency lodging, food and other basics while the man awaits an assessment by insurers, according to spokesman Dan Bedell.

The cause is under investigation.

We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
