Shortly after 9 p.m., a 2002 Dodge Dakota went off the Bangor Road and struck a utility pole, according to spokesman Steve McCausland. Twenty-year-old Harold Fickett III of Clifton died at the scene.

Two other young people in the truck were injured, including the driver, McCausland said. Both were taken to the Waldo County Hospital in Belfast with non-life threatening injuries. Additional information on the injured was not immediately available.

The road was closed for several hours as state troopers investigating the fatal crash.

Troopers said a chocolate Labrador retriever ran off from the crash site and are asking local residents who may have seen the dog to call the Public Safety dispatch center in Augusta at 624-7076.
