Fire Investigators say the victim is likely 55-year-old Michael Olin, who lived alone in the one story house at 136 Elm Street.  The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for positive identification, according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

The fire was spotted by a newspaper carrier just before 4 am and the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.  The body was found near the front door and investigators suspect the victim was trying to escape the flames when he was overcome.

The house was destroyed and Fire Marshals are now attempting to determine how the fire started.  There was no sign of any working smoke detectors in the house.  This is the sixth fire death in Maine this year.
