Old Town Highlights Busy Day 2 At SLWS

Day two at the 2015 Senior League World Series features the host team from Old Town, Maine taking on Saipan at 1 p.m. as well as a pair of teams fighting to stay alive.

Texas One-Hits Virginia, 2-0 In SLWS

After a dramatic 12-inning win yesterday, Texas responded by beating the U.S. Southeast team from Virginia, 8-2.

Joe Gobbilliot threw 5.1 no-hit innings for the Southwest representatives, while the team's offense was led by Turner Gauntt, 2-for-3 with a triple and 3-RBI, and a pair of runs batted in from Thomas Parks.

Virginia scored twice in the seventh, but went just 1-for-21 collectively at the plate.

Now 2-0 in the tournament, Texas will next play Pennsylvania, Tuesday (8/4) at 8 p.m. Virginia will look to continue their stay at the SLWS when they play the winner of Arizona vs. Curacao, Tuesday (8/4) at 10 a.m.

Old Town Rallies To Edge Saipan In SLWS Debut

The SLWS hosts from Old Town rallied to win their tournament debut, 6-2 over Asia-Pacific.

A pair of runs in the fifth inning and tfour more in the sixth led the hosts to victory. Jacob Ketch delivered the game-tying hit in the fifth and Ryan Hoogterp drove in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Hoogterp led Old Town's lineup, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ethan Stoddard earned the win, throwing the final _ innings.

Lorenzo Sebaklim took the loss for Saipan, allowing three runs, two earned. Roke Tenorio continued his hot start to the tournament for Saipan, going 2-for-4 at the plate and is now hitting .625 through two games. 

Old Town will now play Tuesday (8/4) at 8 p.m. vs. Ohio. Saipan will look to stay alive when they play the winner of Italy and Canada, Tuesday (8/4) at 1 p.m.

Curacao Advances, Arizona Becomes First Team Eliminated

Latin America extended their stay at the SLWS with a 7-3 victory over U.S. West, sending the team from Arizona home.

Curacao was lead by a pair of three-hit performances from Siamari Boekhoudt, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, and Alex Henrietta, 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Halim Rosalina recorded the win, allowing just two hits in four innings of work.

The loss was charged to Cesar Dominguez, who threw a complete game and struck out six. Only two of Curacao's six runs were earned as Arizona committed five errors defensively. Paulo Rodriguez went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in a pair in the losing effort.

Curacao now plays Virginia, Tuesday (8/4) at 10 a.m. Arizona exits the SLWS after losing both their games, including the epic 12-inning loss to Texas in the tournament's opening game.

Italy Survives, Canada Finishes Tournament 0-2

Day #2 at the SLWS came to a close with Italy defeating Canada, 6-3.

Italy was powered by three RBI from Leonardo Bulfone and two from Lorenzo Olivieri.

Simone Fontana earned the win for Italy, pitching 6.2 innings and striking out seven while allowing three unearned runs.

Jayden Lorenz took the loss for Canada, allowing five runs and striking out four in 5.2 innings on the mound.

Italy will play Saipan, Tuesday (8/4) at 1 p.m. in an elimination game. With the loss, Canada becomes the second team to exit the tournament.
