Pines Health Services and Katahdin Valley Health are the two northern Maine providers of the four health centers in Maine which will get more than $1.5 million from the federal government to expand oral health services around the state. 

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is providing the money as part of a nationwide effort to increase the number of dental care and oral health patients served.

The center receiving the largest grant is Portland Community Health Center, which will receive $525,000.

The other centers are Katahdin Valley Health Center in Patten, Penobscot Community Health Center in Bangor and Pines Health Services in Caribou. Those centers will receive $350,000 each.

Pines Health Services has specialty care services at locations in Caribou, Presque Isle, Van Buren, Washburn and Fort Fairfield.  Many of the Pines providers are members of Cary Medical Center's active medical staff.

Katahdin Valley Health Center has clinics in Ashland, Houlton and Patten. They operate dental clinics in Millinocket, Houlton and Ashland.
