Nine soldiers at Base Gagetown in Oromocto were injured Wednesday morning when a light armoured vehicle hit an embankment.

Public Affairs Officer Capt. Evelyne Lemire said the accident happened around 10:30 a.m. during routine training.

Lemire said the soldiers from 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment were travelling in an LAV 6.0 at the time of the crash.

Five soldiers were taken to the Health Services Centre at the military base for treatment of minor injuries. Four others were transported to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton with serious injuries.

Capt. Lemire said an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident.
