Calling it 'an extremely dangerous play', the NHL Department of Public Safety has suspended former UMaine Black Bear and now Detroit Red Wing Gustav Nyquist for six games without pay.

The suspension was handed down after Nyquist took part in a hearing about the high sticking incident Sunday night against Jared Spurgeon of the Minnesota Wild.

The suspension will cost Nyquist $158,333 out of his paycheck. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
