The prolific Saw franchise is set to resurrect once more: Its eighth installment will hit theaters next year, despite the fact that its seventh film — titled Saw: The Final Chapter — was initially declared the series’ last.

The planned movie -- rumored to be titled Saw: Legacy -- is set for a 2017 release, according to Deadline, and will be co-directed by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who made their directorial debut with 2003’s Undead and went on to release the 2010 film Daybreakers. Josh Stolber and Pete Goldfinger — who helmed the scripts for Piranha 3D, Piranha 3DD and Sorority Row — have been brought on as writers, according to Variety.

News of the forthcoming film comes six years after the release of Saw: The Final Chapter, which producer Mark Burg promised would bring the series to a conclusive close.

“We are done; this is it,” he said in a 2010 interview with Reuters. “We don’t want to be that boxer who fought one too many fights.”

“In every Saw movie, we left questions open and in this movie we answer every question the audience has ever had,” he continued.

But it’s unsurprising the studio sought to bring the film back to life. Saw has earned over $733 million over the course of its franchise-life, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful horror movie series of all time, according to TIME.

Saw VIII is set to premiere on October 27, 2017 -- just in time for Halloween.
