A 26-year-old man from Tracadie, N.B., charged with possession of child pornography and making available child pornography has been sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Frederick Basque was arrested in connection with an investigation by the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit that resulted in the execution of a search warrant at a home in Tracadie in November 2016.

RCMP say Basque appeared in Tracadie Provincial Court on Tuesday, Jan. 8th for sentencing. In addition to prison time, he will be added to the National Sex Offender Registry for life, be required to submit a sample of his DNA, and is under strict conditions not to be around children.
