For nearly two years, Alyssa has been battling congestive heart failure, brought on by the effects of chemotherapy that she underwent to cure leukemia when she was 8 months old.

Alyssa has been staying at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto since February.  She had the heart transplant on Tuesday and appears to be doing fine.  Doctors say the next few days are crucial as they wait to see if her body accepts or rejects the new heart.

Alyssa is the daughter of Richard Clarke and Wanda Mahar. She lives in Stanley, New Brunswick
