Letter Carriers ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive is Saturday
Saturday, May 14th is the 24th Annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive, coordinated by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Food pantry shelves that were filled up in the winter in the spirit of holiday generosity are typically bare by spring—a reminder that hunger in the U.S. is a real and ongoing issue.
The ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive has turned into the largest one-day food-collection effort in the nation. Last year was the 12th straight year that letter carriers picked up more than 70 million pounds of non-perishable food donations.
Here’s a simple way for you to help: just leave a bag of nonperishable food items next to your mailbox on Saturday. Your letter carrier will pick up your donation, which will then be delivered to food pantries in the state.
Other agencies and companies partnering with the NALC in the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive include the U.S. Postal Service, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, United Way Worldwide, the AFL-CIO and Valassis.
