The West District RCMP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning in Lansdowne, New Brunswick, just north of Hartland.

Police say a 23-year-old man from Muniac was driving on the Lansdowne Road around 4:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, according to Sgt J.P. MacDougall of the Woodstock RCMP.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle passed away at the scene as a result of his injuries, MacDougall said.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
