First year head coach Chris Morris is taking his Sanford Mainers to the New England Collegiate Baseball League championship series, thanks to a walk-off 3-run homer last night by Shaine Hughes. The 5-2 win over the Valley Blue Sox gave the Mainers the best-of-3 semi-final series win.

Sanford will meet the Mystic Schooners of Connecticut in a best-of-3 championship series starting tonight. The Mainers are Northern Division champs, Mystic is the Southern Division champ in the 13 team wooden bat league.

Morris took over head coach duties from former UMaine player and coach Aaron Izaryk who moved to the GM position.

Morris is a former baseball and football coach at Husson University and he coached Brewer Falcons American Legion baseball. He is currently an assistant baseball coach at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

His Sanford Mainers roster includes UMaine Black Bear pitcher Jonah Normandeau, along with University of Southern Maine players Sam Stauble and Paul McDonough. Other players come from schools such as Michigan and Vanderbilt.
