After the Prince Tribute debacle at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, Baltimore fans can expect a proper tribute from one of the Purple One’s closest associates. Morris Day and the Time will perform a special tribute to the late music icon in B-More this summer.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Day and the Time will headline a “Purple Rain” tribute concert on July 1 at Baltimore’s Patapsco Arena. The performance comes as the world continues to mourn the life and music of Prince, who died on April 21.

The event also comes a year after Prince performed a Rally 4 Peace concert at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. The event was very much needed after weeks of unrest in the city following the death of Freddie Gray, who died after a spine injury while in police custody.

The Time, also known as the Original 7ven, are a Minneapolis-based band that performed under the tutelage of Prince on Warner Bros. Records. The group is famous for their classic hits like “Jungle Love,” “777-9311,” “The Bird” and “The Walk.” Most fans will likely remember the debonair Morris Day and his confidente Jerome in the 1984 classic movie Purple Rain.

The "Purple Rain" tribute concert will also feature R&B band Secret Society as the opening act. For information on this event, head over to menandwomenofrespect.com.
