A 26-year-old man from Massachusetts used a cell phone as a headlight and rode a moped on the Turnpike from New Bedford, MA to Kittery, Maine on Friday night.

When Maine State Trooper Scott Harakles stopped him around 1:22 AM, he did not have registration or a valid driver’s license. The man’s name was not released.

Police remind drivers of the law:

Mopeds and motorized scooters are prohibited on the Maine Turnpike - Title 29A §1252-3: Mopeds and motorized scooters.

A moped or motorized scooter may not be operated by a person who does not possess a valid license of any class or a license specifically endorsed to operate a motorcycle or a moped; or on an interstate highway or on a way in which a bicycle is prohibited.
