After a 30-day evaluation at Restigouche Health Centre, Jules Côté of Moncton was deemed criminally responsible and fit to stand trial for stabbing a taxi driver in Saint-Léonard.

The attack happened outside a residence on Coombs Road on November 26th.  Police said Côté fled on foot and was arrested a short time later in a wooded area near the Saint-Léonard airport.

The 58-year-old cab driver was taken by ambulance to the Edmundston Regional Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The RCMP charged Côté with attempted murder and aggravated assault.  He pleaded guilty Monday morning in Edmundston Provincial court.

Côté will remain in custody until his sentencing on March 9th.
