The Caraquet RCMP says a body has been recovered near the Caraquet wharf, believed to that of an 81-year-old man, who went missing over the weekend.

Police had earlier reported Arger Albert was last seen leaving his residence on Sunday around 1 p.m. but did not return home when expected. Family members located the man's car parked at the wharf.

The body was located at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday by members of the Acadie-Chaleur Ground Search and Rescue team according to Sgt. Stéphane Blanchard.

Members of the RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team recovered the body.

An autopsy will be performed to confirm the man's identity and help determine the cause of death, Blanchard said. Foul play is not suspected.

The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.
