Mapleton Man Arrested On Multiple Charges After Driving Into A Ditch, Tried To Flee

A Mapleton man was arrested Tuesday evening after driving his vehicle, carrying drugs and drug paraphernalia, into a ditch and was caught fleeing the area on foot.

The Caribou Police Department has reported that on Tuesday around 10:02 p.m. they were called to the scene of a vehicle that had driven off Route 89, just past the Madawaska Road intersection.

A caller reported the incident and said that the driver of the vehicle that went off the road approached him and asked for a ride and that he needed to 'get out of there fast.'

When the caller told the driver no, he walked away on foot.

Officer Eric Depner with the Caribou Police Department arrested 43-year old Daniel Easler of Mapleton after arriving locating a 1995 GMC pick-up truck, maroon and tan in color, which was registered to Easler, in a ditch with no one around it.

Officer Depner followed the tracks in the snow away from the vehicle and located Easler on the Belyea Road, east of the Little Madawaska River in Caribou.

As Easler was walking down the road, Depner noticed a shotgun under his overcoat. When asked who he was, Easler refused to identify himself and was taken into custody.

Easler was identified when he was taken to the Caribou Police Department and after having his fingerprints scanned with a portable scanner by Troopers Adam Stoutamyer and Patrick Pescitelli of the Maine State Police.

Upon arrest, Easler was found with a loaded handgun, presumed stolen out of Presque Isle, drug paraphernalia, and drugs along with the loaded shotgun seen under his overcoat.

Easler had numerous warrants and was out on 6 different bails.

Easler has been charged with the following:

• Illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person X2
• Possession of a stolen firearm
• Possession of Schedule D Drugs
• Operating after revocation, habitual offender
• Violation of conditional release
• Failure to give correct name, date of birth and address.

Easler's bail has been set at $10,000 cash or $25,000 double surety. The report goes on to say that Easler has not made bail and will be transported to the Aroostook CountyJail.

His court date is scheduled for January 10, 2019.
