22-year-old Tyler Tibbets - who stole a police cruiser Friday morning while handcuffed - has been involved in a serious crash driving another car, said police.

Tibbets stole a Dexter Police car around 11:30 am Friday. It was found about 90 minutes later after being abandoned a couple miles away, according to Public Safety Spokesman, Stephen McCausland.

Police were chasing Tibbets in a different vehicle on Route 15 in Corinth when it crashed into trees. He was seriously injured and was pinned inside the wreck.  First responders were working to free him and a Lifeflight helicopter landed to fly him to EMMC.

It is not clear how he obtained the second vehicle, said McCausland. No officers were injured in Friday’s incident.
