Police say 34-year-old Shane Prior, of Cushing, died after the three-mile chase with troopers on Route 32 on Monday night. He had fired a shot at a trooper, who returned fire, before shooting himself inside his pickup truck. The trooper, Sgt. Jason Madore, was not hurt and was placed on administrative leave with pay.

The woman, 30-year-old Michelle Creamer, also from Cushing, was taken to a hospital for treatment of her gunshot wound.

The Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating the police involvement with the shooting and an autopsy on Prior is planned.
