CIMT reports the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when a man was attempting to cross the street to his home. The driver of the SUV, who was heading towards Drummond, reportedly saw the man at the last moment but she was unable to avoid a collision.

Grand Falls police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene on Tobique Road, near the intersection with Undine Road, and found the man lying in the roadway.

The man suffered significant head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Grand Falls General Hospital. Grand Falls Police chief Rosaire Leclerc told CIMT on Monday that the man is well known in the area and is often seen walking near his home.

The investigation continues.
