Clerk’s Smartphone Stops Bullet in Store Robbery
A gas station employee in Florida says his Smartphone saved him when he was shot during an armed robbery early Monday morning.
Police in the Orlando suburb of Winter Garden say a man entered a Hess station about 4:45 a.m. and asked a clerk for help finding a beverage. The man then pulled out a revolver and demanded the clerk open the safe.
After two clerks were unable to open the safe, police said the robber fled on foot, but fired a single shot that hit a clerk in the abdomen.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the clerk’s Smartphone blocked the bullet and he sustained only minor injuries.
Police said the suspect is about 6 feet tall and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a yellow traffic vest and white gloves.
The clerk didn’t realize that his HTC phone had stopped the bullet until he was talking to police officers who were investigating the hold-up.
