The West District RCMP, along with other first responders, helped save a man who had wandered onto the ice of the St. John River over the weekend.

On December 17, 2016, at around 11:30 a.m., the RCMP received a call that a man from the Tobique First Nation had made his way onto the ice where he collapsed and was unresponsive.Police were able to reach the man and pull him off the ice to provide first aid. RCMP along with Ambulance New Brunswick and the Victoria County Fire Fighters worked together to bring the man up a steep embankment and get him to safety.

The 45-year-old man was transported to the Perth-Andover Hospital where he received treatment for hypothermia.
