The concept behind Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle is a funny one. Not so much the “ha, look at how far-fetched a totalitarian America feels,” but a deeper sci-fi premise than an alternate outcome to World War 2. Now, that idea is blossoming in Season 2, as a new clip introduces Stephen Root as the titular mysterious man.

The Boardwalk Empire, Office Space star and all-around character actor will debut in Amazon’s second season as the title character, purveyor of the mysterious alternate reality films that depict a history much closer to our own. The clip above doesn’t exactly answer the main mystery, but does illuminate how much more sci-fi season 2 might get.

Debuting Season 2 on December 16, Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle adapts an old Philip K. Dick novel to imagine a 1962 in which the United States had lost World War II, and subsequently been divided between the German “Greater Nazi Reich,” and the “Japanese Pacific States.”

The series stars Alexa Davalos, Rufus Sewell, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and DJ Qualls. Check out the first Season 2 trailers below, and watch all episodes on Amazon Prime.
