A man escaped unharmed from an overnight fire in Debec, New Brunswick, about 15 kilometres southwest of Woodstock.

The Debec Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly before 2 a.m. Monday at 333 Debec Road. Officials say there was some fire damage plus heavy smoke damage throughout his house.

Canadian Red Cross volunteers have arranged for emergency lodging and related travel for the displaced resident, and for purchases of essentials like clothing and food, according to Red Cross spokesman Dan Bedell.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
