A Maine man has been arrested for allegedly using a hammer to assault another man, Jason Mackenzie, 37, was taken into custody by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night. 

Bath police say Mackenzie is accused of striking a 37-year-old Bowdoin man in a Union Street apartment on Aug. 24.  Lt. Robert Savary says an argument spilled outside where Mackenzie allegedly struck the victim in the face with the hammer several times. The incident took place just after 1 pm at 98 Union Street.

EMT’s were called to the scene to treat the victim for his injuries. Officers interviewed the victim as well as witnesses and learned that Mackenzie had fled the scene prior to their arrival. A hammer was located by investigators outside the apartment building.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken by friends to Midcoast Hospital for further treatment. He has since been released.

Mackenzie is charged with Aggravated Assault, a Class B Crime.
